Maybe she was bored to eat alone or maybe she wanted her friends to join in on the fun, Anna soon invited her dear ones to join her for this unconventional snack break. It soon became a tea party of merriment. The concept struck a chord and everybody seems to have loved the idea, for High-tea in no time, became a very fashionable and popular event.
The aristocrats and the well-to-do began to host this event in their manors. The food items, along with the tea, were placed on a ‘high’ dining table during these events – which gave the event its name, High Tea. The wide variety of food included scones, cakes, sandwiches, ham, potatoes, roast beef, pies, etc and of course, Tea.
High-tea started off as an indulgence for royals and aristocrats. It was a leisurely afternoon affair that consisted of a substantial meal.
